ABOUT US IMA MOHALI
WHO WE ARE
Indian Medical Association is the only representative voluntary organization of Doctors of Modern Scientific System of Medicine, which looks after the interest of doctors as well as the well being of the community at large.
Today, I.M.A. is a well established organisation with it’s Headquarters at Delhi and State / Terr. Branches in 29 States and Union Territories. It has over 2,15,000 doctors as its members through more than 1650 active local branches spread all over the country.
HISTORY
- IMA was started on 28-12-1928
- IMA has to date (Sept.1990) 78,000members including 9,000 life members
- IMA has 23 State Branches and 9 Territorial branches and 1274 local branches
- IMA safeguards interest of its members and participates in all national health programmes.
The founding fathers wayback in 1928, while struggling for liberation of the Motherland from British rule simultaneously felt the need of a national organisation of the medical profession. Before that, some members of the profession- a selected few – were members of the British Medical Association, which had opened branches in India to cater to the local needs. These stalwarts, ultimately succeeded in formation of Indian Medical Association and reached an agreement with the British Medical Association that they will have no branch in India, and got mutually affiliated, which relationship continues till today.
VISION
To work for the abolition of compartmentalism in medical education, medical services and registration in the country and this to achieve equality among all members of the profession.
MISSION
To maintain the honour and dignity and to uphold the interest of the medical profession and to promote co-operation amongst the members thereof;
IMA BELIEF
To promote and advance medical and allied sciences in all their different branches and to promote the improvement of public health and medical education in India

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT'S DESK
On July 1st, 2002, IMA Mohali started as a small unit of Indian Medical Association and is now a big and important branch with an active participation in all Punjab and National IMA activities.
It organizes regular conferences and lectures to upgrade the knowledge of its members.
With the increasing assaults on doctors and medical setups, the unity and strength amongst doctors have become the need of the hour! It is thus of great importance that all doctors should become the member of the IMA and remember that their strength lies in the strength of the IMA. While upholding the rights of the patients and diligently performing our duties, we must remember to protect our rights too.
IMA Mohali has recently participated in the nation wide protest against certain policies/bills at the call of National IMA.
We have an important status in the activities of IMA Punjab. Over the period of years our members have won several state awards.
IMA Mohali is always happy to associate with, and to support, the functioning of government programs. We are thankful to the government functionaries for their support and participation in IMA Mohali activities.
Last but not the least, all IMA members are requested to apprise the non-members of our activities and make new members, thereby helping to make the IMA stronger. Members are encouraged to increase their participation in all IMA activities in full strength. This would increase bonhomie amongst doctors.
